Sailing school

Sailing school

Our sailing instructors will prepare you thoroughly and comprehensively for the official category D skipper’s examination. The D license entitles you to operate a sailing boat with a sail area of more than 15 m2 (Lake Constance 12 m2) on all our lakes and border waters. The examination consists of a theoretical and a practical part.

Our sailing lessons take place on the Anna Luna, a well-maintained sailing yacht with a slip rig. The handling of the sails is very easy thanks to the furling mainsail and the furling genoa.

We train sailing students all year round at our sailing school. The training times are from 08.00-21.00 from Monday to Sunday. You can take the lessons in 120-minute sessions or in several blocks as a full-day course – this depends on your availability, wishes and the time available until the exam.
Around 12-15 lessons are required to successfully complete the exam.

Training programm

The sailing yacht and its equipment. Setting and hoisting sails, reefing, sail trim. Sailing according to wind and compass on various courses.
Tacking, jibing, Q-tacking, turning on both sides, tacking. Shooting at buoy and jetty,
“Man overboard” maneuver. General seamanship (knots, manning the ship, ship safety, basics of ship handling). Preparation for the category D examination.

Training area

Our training area is the lower Lake Zurich basin between Zurich Wollishofen and Zurich Tiefenbrunnen. We usually start our sailing lessons from our mooring at the south pier of Zurich Wollishofen harbor.

In groups of up to 3 people or in individual lessons (private lessons) from the port of Zurich-Wollishofen. We are also happy to give you private lessons on your own boat.
Training duration
The duration of the course is approx. 12 to 18 lessons of 2 hours, depending on your personal background, until you are ready to take the exam.

Depending on your wishes and availability, the sailing school can be completed in blocks as a half-day course, full-day course or in lessons of 120 minutes each. We will be happy to discuss with you the most suitable option and its advantages and disadvantages.

Implementation

Our lessons are held in all weathers, as far as the safety of the boat and crew allows. Special sailing clothing is not necessary, apart from shoes with a light-colored non-slip sole (e.g. gym shoes). Rainwear (oilskins) and life jackets are provided for each student if required. Changing facilities are available on our school boat.

Teaching material

Our specially developed comprehensive training materials are included in the training price and will be given to you in your first lesson.
